Travel tips for families planning to drive abroad

24th July 2007 Print
“Think hard about the ages and personalities of your children before packing entertainment for the trip” says leading online car hire broker Holiday Autos. As the summer holidays get under way, to help families with the long car journeys ahead and make the experience more enjoyable, Holiday Autos has issued a new list of do’s and dont’s and introduced a simple and easy way to book tickets for local attractions online.

These new features can be found in the separate section called “travel guides” on holidayautos.co.uk, amongst other information on destinations, favourite drives, essential checks as well as useful information on how to best plan driving trips abroad.

The top ten tips from holidayautos.co.uk are:

1. Plan frequent stops for refreshments, fresh air and toilet visits
2. Make sure you bring music that will please everyone’s ears
3. Bring books that can entertain a large age range such as Anne Fine and Beatrix Potter
4. Bring a toy or game so that children can play quietly on their own but make sure these do not cause nausea
5. Consider taking own child booster seat as these cannot be guaranteed in all cases
6. Have an emergency stash of food available in case you can’t stop.
7. Avoid stopping for fast food and fizzy drinks as the high sugar content can make children very hyperactive
8. Have a range of games prepared to keep them occupied such as “I Spy” or “20 questions”
9. Encourage them to look out of the window as much as possible, teaching them about their surroundings
10. Organise activities outside the car en route and book tickets to visit local attractions on Holidayautos.co.uk before you go.
