Baby seat charges mount up for British families

24th October 2008 Print
Parents hiring a car when they travel are being advised to compare the additional costs of renting baby and child seats before booking. Car hire comparator Carrentals.co.uk says that costs from providers can vary significantly; meaning cheaper car rental may be offset by higher child seat prices.

The company, which compares prices from up to 50 rental companies including Budget, Holiday Autos and EasyCar, says that child car seats can range from 14Euros per rental in places like Malaga, up to 50Euros and more in areas such as Italy, with prices varying by rental provider and location of hire.

“Child and baby car seats are a legal requirement in many countries, but the additional charges made to the booking can vary significantly. Our advice to parents is to check on the costs before confirming the booking. It may be that you will be better off choosing a different rental company, or even opting to buy a car seat when you get to your destination,” advises Managing Director of Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson.

In the UK the law requires children travelling in cars to use the correct child restraint until they are 135cm in height or 12 years old, with the laws varying by destination.

Gareth adds: “All parents want to ensure their children have the right seats, from both a safety and a legal point of view. However, the cost shouldn’t be overlooked – compare a few companies and see how they stack up before making the booking.”

Carrentals.co.uk compares prices in over 9,000 locations around the world available. Visitors to the site can search and compare the best deals on car hire, before transferring to the supplier’s site to make their booking. For more information visit Carrentals.co.uk.
