Ten Top Reasons to Visit the 2006 Goodwood Festival of Speed The Goodwood Festival of Speed is now firmly established as the world’s greatest celebration of the history of motor sport.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Racing for Glory – a Century of Grands Prix’ celebrating 100 years since the very first Grand Prix, a century since the first Targa Floria Sicilian road race and 40 years since the great TransAm and CanAm series were founded.

This year’s Festival takes place on 7.8.9 July at Goodwood House, Chichester, West Sussex. There are thousands of reasons to visit the 2006 Festival of Speed - below are just ten highlights;

Contemporary Formula One: No less than eight of today’s very best F1 teams will be at the Festival of Speed, with acclaimed current F1 drivers such as Jenson Button, Giancarlo Fisichella, Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber enthusiastically exercising their cars. A record number of F1 World Champions, including Nigel Mansell, Mika Hakkinen and Damon Hill, will also be tackling the challenging 1.16-mile Goodwood hillclimb course.

Revised and improved Forest Rally Stage: At least four current WRC teams will join more than 30 historic rally cars on the revised and improved Goodwood Forest Rally Stage. Expect to see plenty of gravel-spitting sideways action from current WRC heroes such as Marcus Gronholm and Petter Solberg, with rallying past masters, including Colin McRae, Hannu Mikkola, Björn Waldegård and Sandro Munari, showing how it used to be done.

Motorcycles: A who’s who of riders and bikes will be in attendance at Goodwood, with huge names such as like Randy Mamola, Troy Corser, Tory Bayliss and John Reynold set to entertain the Festival crowds. Motorcycle highlights will include the unique two-seater Ducati GP bike, as well as a rare selection of classic Hondas, seldom seen outside of Japan.

Central Display: Although still under wraps, this year’s extravaganza of automotive art, directly outside Goodwood House, will celebrate a century of Grand Prix successes for Renault, with the current F1 team operating from beneath the display. This area will be supported by a fascinating pictorial display of a Century of Grands Prix.

Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’: This prestigious annual homage to the finest in automotive design will this year include the mesmerising art deco Phantom Corsair streamlined coupé, as well as a tribute to the original Supercar, the 40-years young Lamborghini Miura. Fans of two-wheelers can admire an unrivalled selection of classic Italian scooters.

Junior Festival of Speed: Something to keep kids of all ages entertained, with oodles of things to do, from discovering the latest Wacky Races characters, to big fun in the Big Top circus tent. The UK’s number one mountain bike stunt team, MAD, will amaze all, as will Rarekind, Britain’s only graffiti art gallery. Be sure not to miss Andrew Baynes’ magnificent life-size 3D sand sculptures of ten significant Grand Prix racers from the past 100 years. And the live music is worth the ticket price alone!

The Sunday Times Driving Supercar Run: A multi-million pound collection of the world’s most desirable contemporary exotica will be demonstrated on the Hill. Watch out for the stunning 1001 bhp Bugatti Veyron being put though its paces, plus the first sighting of the new Ferrari 599 GTB in action in the UK.

Air Displays: The Festival crowds will look to the skies to watch breathtaking displays throughout the event, including the world-famous Red Arrows performing heart-stopping dives and stunts on Sunday.

The Summer Social Season: What Wimbledon is to tennis, and Henley is to rowing, so Goodwood is to motor sport, having quickly established itself as the place to be every summer to see the very best. No other motoring event can match the unique combination of more than 300 vehicles and almost 100 motor racing heroes, blasting up the drive of one of England’s most revered stately homes. No wonder the Festival of Speed has often been described as ‘the Garden Party of the Gods.’
