Classic car owners urged to be vigilant

Footman James is urging classic vehicle owners to be extra vigilant after theft claims rose by 32 per cent in June.

Paul Matthews, managing director of the specialist insurance broker, said: “The best thing about owning a classic vehicle is taking it out and enjoying it and the recent sunny conditions have been perfect for this - all I would advise classics owners to do is be careful.

“For example, in the warm weather, when you are using your classic more, it is very tempting to leave it on the drive overnight – making it a potential target for opportunist thieves. Keeping it in a secure garage will ensure it is hidden.

“If you have taken your classic out for the day and are enjoying a pub lunch, park it where you can see it if possible, and if you have a convertible, make sure you put the roof back up while it is parked - simple measures such as these can help protect your classic against would-be thieves.”
