Music events in Iceland for the 2007 diary

20th December 2006 Print
Iceland is set to host two hot music festivals next year, the second Rite of Spring and the ninth Iceland Airwaves. Icelandair has just released exclusive online deals for UK music lovers.

Reykjavik in Iceland will host two major music festivals in 2007, and both are easily accessible to UK travellers with Icelandair (icelandair.co.uk).

Rite of Spring (18th-20th May 2007) brings together leading names from the global folk, world and jazz scenes in an intimate festival in downtown Reykjavik. The inaugural event, in 2006, drew artists from across Europe, the UK and North America including Scottish Latin folk fusion-meisters, Salsa Celtica.

Icelandair offers a Rite of Spring deal from £339pp including return flights from London Heathrow or Glasgow, 2 nights B&B at Hotel Loftleidir, tax and a festival pass allowing entrance to all musical gigs. Add £40pp for flights from Manchester including 3 nights B&B accommodation.

Keep an eye on riteofspring.is for the latest updates on which artists are making a beeline for Reykjavik in spring.

Iceland Airwaves (17th-21st October 2007) is firmly on the global music festival calendar, but retains a unique Icelandic style - notably a lack of velvet ropes and VIP culture, and the infamous Blue Lagoon recovery party where artists and fans alike enjoy a soak in the naturally warm mineral-rich waters. Artists wowing crowds at the event 2006 festival included Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs, The Go! Team, and Brazilian Girls.

Icelandair now has an ‘Early Bird’ offer, to be booked by 1st February 2007, of £309pp including return flights London Heathrow and Glasgow, 2 nights B&B at Hotel Loftleidir, tax and a festival pass allowing entrance to all musical gigs. Add £40pp for flights from Manchester including 3 nights accommodation.
