Aer Lingus announces new Chairman

The Board of Directors of Aer Lingus Group plc today wishes to announce the appointment of Colm Barrington as Chairman of the Board. Mr Barrington will succeed John Sharman as Chairman. He will be appointed to the board in September and will then assume the role of Chairman.

Colm Barrington is Chief Executive Officer and a director of Babcock and Brown Air Limited, the NYSE listed, Irish based, aircraft leasing company. He was formerly Managing Director of Babcock and Brown in Dublin from 1994 to 2007. Prior to that he held a number of senior executive management positions in GPA Group Plc from 1979 to 1993 and was appointed President of GE Capital Aviation Services Limited following its acquisition of GPA Group Plc.

Mr Barrington is a non-executive director of IFG Group plc. He is also currently a non-executive director of the Dublin Airport Authority, from which position he will be resigning prior to assuming the role of Chairman with Aer Lingus. He has represented Ireland in international yacht racing and in 2007, he completed the Barrington Report on the Irish Private Health Insurance Industry for the Minister for Health and Children.

The Board wishes to thank Mr. Sharman for the huge role he has played in transforming Aer Lingus into a publicly quoted company, with a very strong balance sheet which is well placed to prosper in the challenging times ahead.
