BCA hits the beach for BEN

30th August 2009 Print
Staff at BCA Staff at BCA really rolled up their sleeves, not to mention their trousers to wade in and support the 'Hit the Beach with BEN - National BEN Week' campaign. BCA’s centres nationwide took to the beach theme like ducks to water and delivered a truly sensational fund raising week, generating over £15,000 in cash for BEN.

With each auction centre devising its own programme, customers and staff were treated to beach scenes, ice cream vans, wet sponge throwing, hula girls, pirate ships, beachwear days, scuba divers, sandcastles, raffles, barbecues and dozens of other fund raising schemes. Cakes, scones and lollipops were sold, teddy bears were raffled and customers donated cars and other luxury items to be auctioned for the cause.

BCA awarded prizes to both the best individual in the 'Dress-down Day - beach theme outfit' - won by Ken Watkinson’s Scuba Diver from BCA Farnham - and the best dressed 'Beach' theme auction hall, which went to the staff at BCA Edinburgh, who brought a touch of Hawaii to ‘Auld Reekie’ for the day.

In total, the BCA week raised £15,485, with BCA staff directly contributing £9,185 and a further £6,300 contribution from BCA customers. Individual BCA centres raised as much as £2,000, with BCA Bedford and Brighouse leading the way as the biggest fund raisers in the week.

The campaign was co-ordinated by BCA Director – Auction Services Keith Rogers. He commented, “Everyone connected with this campaign in aid of BEN is to be congratulated - the staff, customers and management teams around our network. We believe company fund raising works best if the whole team is engaged and enthused right from the start and a key message to get across is that BEN is for everybody in the industry, should they ever need help. The 'Hit the Beach with BEN’ campaign was owned and driven by our people, meaning BEN had a raised profile within the BCA network and our large customer base during the campaign.”

Speaking on behalf of BEN, Charles Davis commented, “We are completely blown away by the generosity and support of BCA staff and customers. To raise such a large sum of money in these trying times is an incredible achievement and will assist BEN greatly in helping those in our industry who are facing difficulty. A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make BCA’s BEN Week such a success.”
