Boy and girl racers voted nation's worst drivers
The days of the white van man being labelled as the worst driver on the road seem to be numbered, according to a new poll. Instead he's been overtaken by boy and girl racers who have sped in to take the crown.Car insurance expert, Admiral, together with YouGov surveyed 3,188 UK motorists for its Annual Survey of British Motorists. They were asked to select as many types of motorist they wanted from a list, to discover the worst drivers overall. Boy and girl racers received the most votes with 72%, followed by elderly motorists on 56% and then the good old white van man in third on 48%.
Sue Longthorn, Admiral managing director, said, "It's surprising to see that such a high number of people voted for boy and girl racers which shows they've obviously hit a nerve with the driving public. It looks like the white van man stereotype as the nation's most disliked driver isn't merited anymore and needs revisiting.
"Seeing elderly motorists irritate over half of motorists is really interesting, as you couldn't get two more different driver types when comparing them to boy and girl racers. However, white van drivers haven't fallen completely out of people's minds as nearly half of people still rate them badly."
Admiral also asked motorists what annoys them about other road users, and the highest number of votes, almost three quarters (73%), went for tailgating. This was followed by not paying attention and not indicating, both of which annoy two thirds of drivers.
Sue continued, "It's important to remember that tailgating is not only an annoyance to drivers, but is also extremely dangerous. Not paying attention and not indicating can also prove dangerous for yourself and other drivers."
