Autumn sailing on the Norfolk Broads

18th August 2009 Print

For those who fancy trying their hand at sailing, one of the best places to do this is on the quiet and peaceful waters of the Norfolk Broads.

Waterways Holidays features a range of sailing breaks where, in addition to the usual handover tuition, there’s the opportunity to gain more confidence in yacht handling by pre-booking additional RYA sailing tuition at just £12 per hour.

And with the busy summer holiday period coming to an end, September and October are ideal months to enjoy the miles of reed-fringed rivers and the open water of the larger Broads with only the sound of the breeze in the sails for company.

A week’s hire of a four-berth ‘Hurricane’ cruising yacht – ideal for beginners – from Upton boat yard is £517 in mid/late September. For more experienced sailors there’s also the opportunity to hire faster, traditional-style ‘High Seas’ yachts (sleep six) for £822.

All sailing yachts also have engines for easier manoeuvring when visiting Broad-side pubs, shops and attractions and for tackling low bridges where the mast has to be lowered.

Waterwaysholidays.com offers live availability on more than 1500 narrowboats and cruisers operated by the UK’s leading boat operators and with more than 50 different start locations. The website also offers lots of advice on boating holidays as well as featuring listings of the latest special offers.
