The younger generation head to Australia

16th July 2007 Print
When asked where they would most like to live in the world, Australia was voted the most popular overseas destination by Britons aged under 45 years old and New Zealand for those aged over 45, according to new research from Bank of Scotland International.

When it comes to where people would most like to live in Europe, the clear preference for those aged under 35 was Spain, whilst those aged over 45 preferred France. For those aged between 35 and 45, there was a direct split between France and Spain.

Almost half of respondents (49%) aged between 45 to 54 years old have considered moving abroad or buying a home abroad, followed by 45% of 25 to 34 year olds, 35 to 44 year olds and 55 to 65 year olds. The least likely to move abroad were those aged over 65 (31%.) In addition, 5% of those aged 45 to 54 years old already owned a home abroad, as well as 5% of 55 to 65 year olds.

Tony Wilcox, managing director at Bank of Scotland International, said: "Many people are of the opinion that it is only the older generation that consider moving abroad or buying property abroad.

"However, younger people are also interested in opportunities overseas, especially within Australia."
