Porsche birthday bash at brands hatch

23rd August 2005 Print
More than 25,000 Porsche and motor racing fans are expected to descend on Brands Hatch this Bank Holiday weekend (28-29 August) as the Porsche Club of Great Britain assemble 5,500 modern and historic road and racecars during a two-day event – the biggest of its kind in Europe.

Visitors have the chance to take part in hot laps in the awesome Porsche GT3, RS or Turbo, tackle the off-road course in a powerful V6 Cayenne and get up close and personal with Le Mans winning cars like the 917.

The event will also be a massive birthday celebration for the German marque in the UK. In 2005, the Porsche Carrera is 50 years old, the 912 40 years old, the 924 turns 30 years old, while the ‘Slantnose’ Turbo hits 20 years old and the 993 RS reaches a 10-year milestone.

And if the bank manager denies you a Porsche supercar this time, then there’s always a Porsche bargain to be had among the official merchandise stands.

As if that’s not enough the festival will be backed up by a frenetic race programme, which features the best that the UK Porsche championships have to offer. Topping the bill is the Michelin Porsche Open, the Michelin Porsche Club Championship and the Porsche 924 Championship.

The Festival will be rounded off by an attempt to break the world record for the number of moving Porsches on a two-kilometre circuit. The current record, a figure of 256 cars, was set successfully at last year’s event.
