Work starts on St Lucia’s latest hotel project

Building work on Cap Maison has just started and the hotel is expected to welcome its first guests at the beginning of 2008.
Cap Maison is an exclusive development of just 22 spacious one, two and three-bedroom apartments, which together create a 50 room, boutique-style luxury hotel. Designed by the well known Caribbean architect, Lane Pettigrew, the apartments will have his trademark styling and sophistication and provide a modern interpretation of classic Caribbean homes. The gardens will be landscaped by Veronica Shingleton-Smith, widely regarded as the finest landscape gardener in the region. Her landscapes will augment the design of Cap Maison and together they will provide the relaxed elegance one would expect from a resort of this quality.
The professionalism of the staff combined with the tranquil ambience of Cap Maison will create a unique and rather special paradox. On the one-hand guests will get the privacy, exclusivity and comfort of their own home and on the other, all the facilities and services of a discreet 5-star resort. For example, meals can be cooked by guests in their own well-appointed, modern kitchens or alternatively, prepared by the resorts chefs and served at the panoramic cliff-top restaurant or in the privacy of their own residence.
Owners at Cap Maison will enjoy privileged access to the sports and leisure facilities of Cap Estate. These include a world-class Health Spa, tennis and squash at the St. Lucia Racquets Club and the challenging 18-hole course at St. Lucia Golf and Country Club. A second course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is planned.
Whilst the owners are not in residence their rooms will be let to hotel guests and rental income will be shared on a 50:50 basis with the management company. This will ensure a high-level return on investment, with a guaranteed five-percent provided in year-one. Cap Maison management will pay for all maintenance and other costs, giving owners the reassurance that their property is secure and being looked after with no hidden charges. There will also be no service charge whilst owners are in residence.
With over 30 years experience in the hospitality industry, Cap Maison developers, Theo and Helen Gobat and family, have a passion for the Caribbean, and St. Lucia in particular. Having moved to the island in 1972 the Gobat family have become well respected residents and their interest in the local cultures and traditions of St Lucia is reflected throughout the development at Cap Maison.
