Volvo advises SRS Air-Bag modules to be checked every 10 years

25th September 2009 Print
Volvo Trucks Volvo Trucks is advising customers to have the system integrity of their vehicles’ SRS Air-Bag modules checked by a qualified workshop, such as their local Volvo Dealer, after the vehicle has been in service for 10 years.

The reason for the recommendation is that Volvo cannot ensure the integrity of the system beyond a service life of ten years. According to Volvo’s Technical Services, plastic parts within the SRS Air-Bag undergo ageing and the material’s characteristics may change.

Volvo’s SRS Air-Bag system is fine tuned to offer the most effective protection for the driver in a severe frontal collision and any changes to the characteristics may affect the effectiveness of the system.

Consequently, Volvo recommends customers replace the SRS Air-Bag module after 10 years.

In 1995 Volvo Trucks were the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to install Air-bags as standard on their FH range.
