Protyre outlets support Tyre Safety Month

30th September 2009 Print
All 37 Protyre retail tyre outlets in the UK will be offering motorists a free five point tyre safety check during Tyre Safety Month in October. With up to 15% of cars and vans on UK roads running on at least one defective or badly worn tyre, tyres are one of the most important, yet neglected safety components on a car.

The Protyre Free Tyre Safety Check includes;

Tread depth: all tyres must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread in a continuous band around the entire circumference of the tyre

Tyre pressures: tyre pressures will be checked and adjusted. Incorrect pressures can lead to excessive and uneven wear and possible tyre failure

General condition: check for lumps and bumps, remove stones from the tread and check valves

Age: there has been an increase in the focus of tyre age following the high profile campaign mounted by the weekly motoring magazine, Auto Express. Protyre will check the age of tyres and recommend replacement if necessary

Alignment: referred to as the hidden danger, Misaligned tyres can lead to excessive shoulder wear and premature failure

Protyre/Micheldever is a firm and long time supporter of TyreSafe and Tyre Safety Month and motorists can call into anyone of the company’s outlets, full details of the locations can be found on protyre.co.uk, with no appointment required to receive their free tyre safety check.
