OVO Energy reduces cost of dual fuel fixed price online tariff
Commenting on OVO Energy reducing the cost of its dual fuel fixed price online tariff, Scott Byrom, utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com said: "OVO Energy becomes the latest provider to join the price war with a cut on its dual fuel fixed price online offering - ‘The New Energy Plan'. This bold move once again changes the face of the fixed online tariff market, making OVO the cheapest product available in 13 out of 14 regions, and knocking E.ON off the top spot with a saving of £41.09 per year."When the energy providers battle it out to be the cheapest in the UK it is great news for consumers. After bills reached an all time high last year it is great to see that prices are still declining. However, a key thing for bill payers to be aware of is that all the price reductions have been to providers' online tariffs and there has been no move to their standard offering. Consumers looking to reduce their energy bills need to ensure they are moving on to an online tariff as this is the option where they will see the biggest reduction to their bills. I urge everyone to shop around now to find the cheapest tariff which is paid monthly by direct debit to safeguard themselves from the large bills they will face after the higher consumption of the winter months. Anyone remaining on a standard tariff paying quarterly by cash or cheque will receive a much bigger bill at the beginning of the New Year, the worse case scenario when trying to recover your finances after the festive period.
"The best tariffs on the market at the moment are online tariffs but they are also fixed deals and customers opting for these offers have the added benefit of knowing exactly what their energy bills are going to be each month. The onus really is on the customer to find the best deal available to them for their consumption and region, so shopping around online for the best utilities deals available is essential."
