Forgetting to turn your clocks back could cost
RSA, the UK's first carbon neutral insurer, is warning businesses and households to check and reset the timers on their heating and other equipment this weekend when the clocks are turned back. The extra hour in bed could cause people to forget to turn off the heating or simply to reset it to a new time.Forgetting to adjust the heating within your business could add to the heating bill, and create more CO2. If an extra hour were to be added onto every company in the UK, then estimations by the Corporate Responsibility team at RSA, suggest that companies could potentially be paying up to 5%* extra for energy, if they needlessly heat empty offices and factories.
Equipment such as vending machines and water-coolers are also often on timeclocks and should not be forgotten.
Dr Paul Pritchard, UK Head of Corporate Responsibility at RSA said: "Although it's very difficult to assess, it appears that many organisations and individuals simply forget about timeclocks, which results in more energy being used and more CO2 being produced.
"Ideally, equipment should only come on (and go off) when needed and the clocks going back should prompt people to do a quick check on settings at both home and work."
