Shoppers in Leeds offered ‘price-per-wear’ receipt

Visitors heading for Leeds Shopping Week this month (October 15-25, 2009) are being offered a new type of till receipt – one that shows not just the cost of the item, but its price-per-wear.

The idea, from event organisers, means those heading for some retail therapy at the fourth annual Leeds Shopping Week can, in advance of their trip, get an idea of what a garment might cost over its lifetime, as well as its immediate cost.

An online calculator has been created at leedsshoppingweek.co.uk where shoppers can find out the price-per-wear cost of their purchases – and those attending Leeds Shopping Week can even collect a printed version of their receipt with a free till receipt holder.

Katherine Busby, one of the organisers of Leeds Shopping Week, said: “Although it’s a tongue-in-cheek idea, as consumers we do tend to just look at immediate costs rather than putting a figure on an item’s value across its lifespan.

“We’re not encouraging people to spend beyond their means, far from it, we just want shoppers to appreciate the true value of their purchases. And we’ve actually got some fantastic retail offers and discounts on during Leeds Shopping Week to benefit visitors.

“We believe our price-per-wear ‘Girl Receipts’ are a UK first and they’re definitely the first shopping till receipts you don’t mind showing off to your partner.”

The fourth, annual Leeds Shopping Week, which is coordinated by City Centre Management and Marketing Leeds with support from Leeds Retail Association, starts on 15 October and runs until 25 October, 2009.
