Leeds supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

25th September 2009 Print
Leeds Building Society is delighted to support Breast Cancer Campaign by selling pink ribbons throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This is a national initiative and all 68 Leeds Building Society branches will participate by offering the ribbons for a suggested donation of £1.

The charity's mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.

Breast cancer is the UK's most common cancer and affects one woman in nine during their lifetime. Around 45,500 women are diagnosed with the disease in the UK each year. This equates to over 120 women being diagnosed every day, and of these around 12,000 women will die every year from the disease.

Franklin Jacoyange, Corporate Partnerships Executive at Breast Cancer Campaign said, "By stocking our pink ribbons this October, Leeds Building Society will be helping to raise vital funds for research into breast cancer. Continuing the research efforts and raising awareness remains vital to beating the disease."

Kim Rebecchi, Director of Sales and Marketing at Leeds Building Society said, "This is the third successive year that we have supported this campaign. We are confident of another great fundraising effort this year as well as further increasing awareness, amongst our staff and customers, of this awful disease."
