Cub Scouts aid conservation in Street

The 14 Cub Scouts, all aged from eight to ten years old, from the 1st Street Scout Group spent Saturday morning helping to plant over 500 reeds in order to achieve their Global Conservation badge.
The reeds have been planted in order to filter the waste water from the site in an environmentally friendly manner. Once filtered, the purified water then joins the town’s drainage network. This activity gave the Cubs a chance to experience first hand the extensive ecological features of the development and the careful thought that has been put into the design of this BREAM rated ‘excellent’ development.
John Gray, site manager for ICON, explained: “The environmental features that have been incorporated into the ICON development are inherent to the design and functionality of the location as a sustainable place to live.
“The reeds reduce the level of contamination and waste entering the water system and we are very grateful for the help the Cubs have given in planting.”
Paul Bentley, chair of the 1st Street Cub Scouts commented: “The Cubs really enjoyed their time at Crest Nicholson’s ICON development and learnt a lot about the environment and the eco-system which has been created on site.
"The cubs were very pleased to be given the opportunity provided by Crest Nicholson to help them achieve their Global Conservation badges."
The first phase of the ICON development consists of 138 one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes. Prices currently range from £107,500 for a one bedroom apartment and range to £244,950 for a four bedroom, three storey home with a first floor outside decking area.
