Cyclists try out new Bedford Western Bypass Sunday 4 October saw 90 cyclists get a chance to cycle along the town’s newest road – the Bedford Western Bypass – as part of a charity event organised by The Rotary Club of Bedford De Parys and sponsored by David Wilson South Midlands to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and RYA Sailability.

Two mayoral candidates, James Valentine (Labour) and Councillor Dave Hodgson (Lib Dem), were amongst the cyclists. Two other candidates, Parvez Akhtar (Conservative) and Apu Bagchi (Independent) offered their mayoral rivals and all cyclists some vocal support as they set off on a choice of 2m, 4m and 30m routes.

Club President, Chris Ryan, said: “Thanks to the efforts of the riders and the support of our key sponsor, David Wilson Homes, we have managed to raise almost £2,000 for our two charities. I’d particularly like to thank Carillion – the bypass constructor – and the local council for their support in helping us get this event off the ground.”

Jackie Day, Sales Director at David Wilson South Midlands comments “As a company, we are committed to getting involved with local organisations so when we were approached by The Rotary Club we didn’t hesitate in giving them our support, especially as the new Western Bypass is right on the doorstep of our brand new The Fairways development in Biddenham Vale.

“We’re thrilled the event was a success and that our sponsorship was able to go towards raising funds for two such worthwhile causes.”

The new section of road that forms the Bedford Western Bypass connects the A428 at Bromham, west of Bedford with the A421 at Marsh Leys and encompasses the Lady’s Walk Viaduct – a major new crossing of the river Great Ouse.

David Wilson’s The Fairways offers a superb selection of one-, two-, three-, four- and five- bedroom homes and is part of the exciting new community of Biddenham Vale which is a brand new housing project located in the loop of the Great River Ouse to the West of Bedford.

As soon as the Western bypass opens in spring 2010, the road network will be significantly improved and will undoubtedly increase its demand, particularly amongst commuters.

Prices at the development start from £99,995.
