bmibaby launch BBC Children in Need 2009 appeal
bmibaby has launched its annual fundraising appeal for BBC Children in Need 2009, the low cost airline’s national charity partner. This is the sixth consecutive year bmibaby has supported the charity and to mark the start of its fundraising activities, the airline has covered one of its aircraft in colourful spots – just like Pudsey’s bandana, and named it Pudsey baby!
The airline’s cabin crew will be collecting loose change and foreign currency onboard every flight from Monday 21 September, until 30 November 2009 which is a total of 2928 flights. In addition the airline will hold fundraising activities at its four UK bases: East Midlands, Manchester, Cardiff and Birmingham, and at its head office. Last year bmibaby raised around £40,000 for the charity and is hoping to beat this amount in 2009.
The BBC Children in Need appeal aims to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, and in 2008 the appeal raised over £37 million which is being used to support numerous projects across the UK.
Crawford Rix, managing director, bmibaby, said:
“We are proud to support BBC Children in Need for the sixth consecutive year. In 2008 we raised around £40,000 which was a fantastic fundraising effort, and this year we hope to raise even more for the charity with the help of our passengers.
“Last year we had a Pudsey plane, with the BBC Children in Need logo on the side of an aircraft. This year we decided to go bigger and better and cover an entire aircraft in colourful spots, just like Pudsey’s bandana. This will create even more awareness for the charity and further demonstrates our commitment to this fantastic charity. Special thanks have to go to Larchfield Graphics, Air Livery and STC Twenty One Limited, who supplied and meticulously applied the spots for our Pudsey plane.
“As well as collecting onboard every flight, we will be holding fundraising events at East Midlands, Manchester, Cardiff and Birmingham Airport, and at our head office, so look out for more details on our website.”
