Nissan Motor (GB) Limited has won a prestigious Green Apple Silver award for its industry-leading environment media web portal and monthly ebulletin.

The awards run by the Green Organisation, an environment group that recognises green endeavour, singled out Nissan’s environmental communication work as class leading across all industry sectors.

Nissan’s monthly ebulletin and the environmental web portal bring the story of the company’s ‘green’ activities to life with an audience of non-motoring media and environmental opinion leaders, as well as the more traditional motoring writers and magazines.

Regularly updated with news, press releases, images and video material from around the world, the web portal and ebulletin also highlight other ways in which Nissan is reducing both energy use and emissions across areas as diverse as building design and manufacturing processes to employee education programmes.

Nissan created the ebulletin and media portal as a one-stop environmental shop for UK media in January 2009.

The Green Apple Silver award was presented to Gabi Whitfield, Director of Communications for Nissan in the UK, during a special ceremony hosted by the Rt. Hon. Patricia Hewitt, MP at the House of Commons on 17 November 2009.

Gabi said: “With LEAF, the world’s first affordable, mass-market electric vehicle about to begin its global roll-out, lithium-ion battery plants being established, and a continued commitment to Fuel Cell development over the longer term, Nissan has plenty to talk about from an environmental perspective.

“Persuading people to accept and embrace these new technologies as a genuine alternative to conventional petrol and diesel powered cars is a huge focus for us. The web portal and ebulletin are the start of a journey to support the media, opinion formers, and consumers and prepare the way for the launch of our forthcoming LEAF electric car.”

Roger Wolens, National Organiser for the Green Apple Awards, said: “Nissan’s ebulletin and web portal are examples of the innovative way companies can interact with the media. It also highlights just how committed Nissan is to environmental best practice across all areas of its business.”
