Female motorists call for women only garages
The majority of women feel intimidated taking their car to the garage and many would prefer female only garages, a new poll has revealed.
Women's car insurance specialist, Diamond asked more than 4,000 women from across the country for their thoughts on cars and motoring. The poll found not only do more than half (52%) of women find taking their car to the garage daunting, a third (31%) would prefer the comfort and reassurance of women only garages.
The Diamond Women and Their Cars Survey also showed a further 60% of women find car sales people patronising, and a third would prefer to buy a car from a woman given the choice.
Sian Lewis, managing director of Diamond said, "Today's generation of female motorists are knowledgeable about cars and many do basic servicing themselves. According to our research over 70% of women know how to check the oil, water and tyre pressure on their car.
"However garages still seem to be very much men's domain and can be intimidating for some women. Women only garages could make for a more comfortable experience."
19 to 25 year olds are the least confident when taking their car to the garage, compared to the over 55s who are the most confident. 57% of the younger women feel intimidated by garages, compared to only 37% of the over 55s.
