New York State prepares to host a season of festive events

With the winter holidays on the horizon, New York State is preparing for a season full of festive events. Here are some of the winter activities and deals that travellers can expect this season.
Lights on the Lake, Onondaga NY
Lights on the Lake is a two-mile-long drive-through show featuring towering holiday displays at Onondaga Lake Park taking place November 25, 2009 - January 10, 2010 from 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. every night including holidays. For more information visit lightsonthelake.com.
Candlelight Tours and Twelfth Night At Van Cortlandt Manor
Experience the late 18th century celebration of "Twelfth Night". The candlelit festivities begin with a visit to the home of one of the wealthiest families of the post-Revolutionary War era. Guests will also experience a celebration at the Manor’s ferry house and dance to the lively strains of a fiddler and drink a toast to the season. Santa Train Excursions at Medina Railroad Museum, Medina NY
Santa Claus is hosting train rides along the Historic Erie Canal. Guests will pass through small villages viewing the sparkling lights and festive scenes of the season and then take a tour of the railroad depot museum. For reservations and more information visit railroadmuseum.net.
Wonderland of Lights, Utica NY
Each year in Utica, NY the light show attracts more than 30,000 delighted children and adults and raises thousands of dollars to support the Resource Center for Independent Living. Lyndhurst Mansion, Tarrytown NY
Guests can pay a visit to the historic mansion and enjoy Lyndhurst in its full winter fairy tale beauty with live music and hot mulled cider amid the lavishly decorated rooms. Reservations required.
