German car culture descends on Goodwood for breakfast

Numerous owners of sporting Porsches, Mercedes-Benz and BMWs were willing to forego the usual Sunday lie-in to sample some great driving roads, tasty English fare and the bright summer sunshine.
Hundreds of Germany’s finest sporting machinery made the trip to Goodwood. Porsche 911s, Mercedes-Benz roadsters and BMW coupes, old and new, were joined by rarities such as a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, Opel GT and NSU Spider, the world’s first rotary-engined car.
The Goodwood Breakfast Club was instigated in March 2006 for those enthusiasts who appreciate the prospect of a fabulous Sunday breakfast, following an invigorating drive to the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit on some of Britain’s most wonderful roads. Its aim is to combine Goodwood’s Home Farm all-organic produce and the talent of its superb Vitra Café chefs with the picturesque motor circuit to create the perfect Sunday morning road run destination.
Each of the six Breakfast Club meetings so far has proven to be an overwhelming success. The seventh, and last meeting of this year, will focus on all aspects of American automobile culture and will take place on the first Sunday of October, the 1st. No Breakfast Club is planned for early September, as visitors to the circuit will be treated to the world-famous Goodwood Revival instead. A limited number of tickets for the Revival, the world’s largest historic motor racing event, are still available.
Each Breakfast Club meeting is themed, but all are welcome driving any interesting vehicle. Entry is free and gates are open from 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs. From 11.30hrs, visitors may also take the opportunity to visit the exquisitely decorated Regency State Apartments at Goodwood House, ancestral home to the Dukes of Richmond.
