New tradesman directory will help consumers avoid DIY disasters
Help is at hand for disheartened DIY enthusiasts, with the launch of email4property.co.uk’s new Local Tradesman tool, enabling homeowners to find reliable plumbers, electricians and other tradesmen operating in their local area.
Just by entering their postcode or local area, homeowners can access a directory of tradesmen who can help with home improvements, building, plumbing and electrical work.
As a result of the recession, many homeowners are taking the opportunity to add value to their property by undertaking their own home improvements. However, email4property.co.uk, the UK’s largest online network of estate agents, warns that this can lead to greater costs in the long run, if amateur DIY enthusiasts are tempted to take on more challenging tasks which then need to be ‘fixed’ by a professional.
It is also important to check home insurance policies before making major improvements. Some insurance policies can be invalidated if the buyer is not qualified to carry out the work and damages the property - all the more reason to bring in the experts.
Additionally, DIY disasters can have serious consequences for more than just your finances. DIY accidents result in approximately 200,000 hospital visits each year,* around 40,000 of which are due to ladders and step ladders. Therefore personal safety is a very important factor to consider before beginning a task in the home.
Steve Lees, Head of Marketing for email4property.co.uk, comments:
“In the current economic climate more homeowners are looking to save money by doing DIY and home improvements themselves. However, this is a false economy when tackling more complicated tasks such as electrical work, roofing or plumbing. Although it may seem expensive to hire a professional at first, it is almost always the safer option.”
