Hyatt professionals gear up for launch of Curaçao’s newest luxury resort
Positioned to be the island’s premier resort for leisure retreats and business gatherings, Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina has assembled a team of top industry experts to lead the launch of the new resort.
Set along 1,500 acres of the Santa Barbara Plantation, a multi-faceted luxury resort community, Hyatt Regency Curaçao is a portion of the grand master development designed for holidaymaking and year-round living. Opening March 2010, the team is looking forward to welcoming guests and showcasing Curaçao’s unique flavour.
A hospitality industry veteran, Tom Romans extends his 23-year tenure with Hyatt as Director of Sales for Hyatt Regency Curaçao. In his position, he will be responsible for all of the sales efforts for the 350-room hotel; a role he currently holds at both Hyatt Regency Aruba and Hyatt Key West. Romans’ accomplishments within Hyatt include serving as Director of Sales for Hyatt’s Sales Team of the Year in 2007 and being nominated as Director of Sales of the Year in both 2007 and 2008. A graduate of the University of Akron, Romans holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and enjoys golf, basketball and restoring vintage vehicles. Romans resides in Orlando with his wife and daughter.
As Rooms Executive, Joel Bunde brings over 16 years of experience to Hyatt Regency Curaçao. Prior to his appointment, he spent more than ten years as rooms executive at the former Park Hyatt Carmel, Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, and Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. His responsibilities include overseeing the concierge desk and lounge, front desk, reservations, communications, housekeeping and security. An Iowa State University alumnus, Bunde holds a bachelor of science degree in hospitality and enjoys photography and sports when he isn’t pursuing his love of travel.
With more than 20 years of experience in the culinary industry, Executive Chef John Pivar will oversee food quality, menus and service at the resort’s three restaurants: MEDI, a casual Mediterranean restaurant with a show kitchen; SHOR, a speciality seafood restaurant and SWIM, a pool bar and grill. Pivar is the author of two popular cook books, one encompassing a full menu from speciality starters to gourmet entrees and desserts, and the other featuring flavourful and fun grilling recipes and techniques. Pivar has received high acclaim for his culinary expertise, such as the “Executive Chef of the Year” awarded by Renaissance and Marriott hotel group for his work at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club.
Ensuring that all of the resort’s restaurants and banquets operate seamlessly at the highest industry standards, Maurice Fahey, a world traveller and multilingual executive joins Hyatt Regency Curaçao as the hotel’s Director of Food and Beverage. Most recently from Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Fahey enjoys cooking and furthering his knowledge about food and wine. He is also engaged in organic farming in the Caribbean and is actively involved in a youth outreach programme to help integrate troubled children back into society.
Scheduled to open in March 2010, the 350-room Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina is located at Santa Barbara Plantation, a 1,500-acre luxury resort community taking shape along a natural harbor known as Spanish Water, 25 minutes from Curaçao's capital city of Willemstad. The full-service luxury hotel will feature uninterrupted water views on three sides, white sand beaches, a 4,500 square foot Hyatt Pure spa, separate 24-hour Hyatt Stay Fit fitness center, Camp Hyatt, multiple outdoor pools, poolside grill, lounge, dive and water sport facility, an 18-hole Pete Dye designed championship golf course and 18,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space.
