Fog-free Prestwick handles ten diversions
Glasgow Prestwick Airport came to the aid of fog-bound Edinburgh and Glasgow International Airports today (Friday December 11) having handled ten diverted aircraft by 4pm.
Prestwick, which has the reputation of having one of the best fog-free records in Britain, dealt with aircraft from airports including Liverpool, Southampton, Kirkwall, Sumburgh and Stornoway amongst others.
Most aircraft have departed empty, with passengers bussed to Edinburgh or Glasgow. For the Aer Arran flight from Edinburgh to Cork, the outbound passengers were bussed to Prestwick for departure to Cork.
Chief Executive Iain Cochrane said: “Once again Glasgow Prestwick demonstrates its value to Scottish aviation. We have had a total of ten aircraft up to now but we anticipate more over the weekend as the fog is forecast to continue.
"Our staff are doing an excellent job in helping passengers get to their destinations with minimal inconvenience."
