Samsung Internet@TV adds iPlayer and LOVEFiLM
Following the launch of Internet@TV in 2009, Samsung has unveiled its new updated platform providing users access to a number of exciting new applications on Samsung connected devices. Users will now be able to store around 70-100 applications on the new platform.
Committed to creating complete Audio Visual solutions, Samsung’s Internet@TV solution will be available on selected TVs as well as all Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Cinema Systems in 2010.
The new Internet@TV platform provides viewers with a gateway to a multitude of entertainment ranging from Video, Music, Social Networking, News and Games amongst others. Samsung has joined forces with a diverse range of content providers to bring something for everyone to Internet@TV.
Working in partnership with the BBC, BBC iPlayer is being made available on Samsung’s Internet@TV platform. The on-demand service will allow viewers to catch up with their favourite BBC programmes from the past seven days, at a time that suits them.
Erik Huggers, BBC Director Future Media and Technology said "BBC iPlayer has enjoyed huge success since launch two years ago, and the next challenge for us is taking the service mobile and into the living room. People are getting more familiar with on-demand TV services, and with more internet-connected TVs coming into the market this year, we've built a version of BBC iPlayer that can be easily adapted to work on internet-connected TVs. Innovation partnerships such as this with Samsung, help us in our goal of making our catch-up services available to as wide a range of licence fee payers as possible."
Samsung is also pleased to announce LOVEFiLM as an application for its Internet@TV service providing users with a direct online movie streaming service for LOVEFiLM unlimited subscribers. ‘LOVEFiLM are very excited to be part of Samsung’s compelling Internet@TV service” says Simon Calver, CEO LOVEFiLM. “We are delighted to be able to provide our unlimited subscription customers with a new and exciting way to access LOVEFiLM’s vast catalogue of movies through their Samsung devices at the touch of a button.”
