Lifeline launches range of innovative race mirrors
Motorsport safety experts Lifeline – world renowned for their specialist fire suppression technology – have released details of their new range of ‘racer-focused’ competition mirrors they have added to their safety products inventory.
It is no secret that, in terms of durability and reliability, race mirrors currently available to the sport fall way short of driver requirements. Most are awkward to fit, particularly to touring cars and because of lack of resistance to vibration, suffer from “droop”, causing inevitable blindspots.
Jim Morris, boss of Lifeline and a seasoned campaigner in saloons and single seaters, had seen the problem at first hand: “A number of drivers and race engineers I had met found the same problems and it occurred to me that, with the new CAD programmes we were using to develop other products, we could harness them to find a way round the race mirror issues.”
The result is Lifeline’s range of mirrors, conforming to fit all FIA and MSA formulae race cars including single seaters, touring cars and GT/sports cars.
The mirrors are manufactured to a high specification with a high impact, shatter resistant body – available in either black or white, which can be painted to suit a particular car livery – to improve durability and there is a choice of either a flat or convex mirror, also shatter resistant.
To maximise design quality, Lifeline used its in-house CAD facilities to ensure that the engineering and manufacturing of the range took advantage of the latest technology processes available. This high attention to detail has resulted in some key unique features. Compared to similar mirrors, the Lifeline product is not only easier to mount but has greater adjustability, lower drag and stronger locking once mounted, which aids stability and reliability.
The new mirrors will be on display on Lifeline’s stand (number 7512) at Autosport International at the NEC, Birmingham from January 14th to 17th inclusive, together with the company’s award-winning range of motorsport fire extinguishers and other key aids to driver safety.
