In a stunning start to its 200th year, Peugeot has scored a magnificent hat trick in the prestigious 2010 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, winning two category awards as well as the overall Car of the Year title for the standard-setting Peugeot 3008 Crossover.

The 3008 is compact and spacious with a host of useful driving features available such as grip control, dynamic roll control, a heads-up display, distance alert and Hill Assist automatic electric parking brake. It successfully combines the best features of a saloon car, MPV, SUV and hatchback to deliver flexibility, space, rugged looks and driveability.

3008 also respects the environment with an efficient range of engine options producing emissions starting at just 130g of CO2 per kilometre. A hybrid version, available in 2011, will push the boundaries of low-emissions family motoring even further.

In fact, the 3008 has proven such a compelling all round package that What Car? introduced a new category to accommodate it: the Crossover. Naturally, 3008 was also crowned winner of this new category.

Explaining why What Car? chose the 3008 as its 2010 Car of the Year, Editor Steve Fowler said: “The 3008 oozes clever thinking. It is styled in a striking and user-friendly fashion and has all the room inside that a modern family should need. Some of the features are a delight, like the full-length glass roof, the head-up display and the massive cooled storage bin between the front seats. Mind you, the rest of the car is pretty clever, too; the rear seats fold flat at the pull of a lever in the boot and the false cargo bay floor means you can get a long or a tall load in. And just as importantly, the 3008 is also comfortable to drive and be driven in, as well as being keenly priced and affordable to run. All of which makes it ultra-desirable and another brilliant Car of the Year.”

5008 is MPV of the Year

Adding similar clever qualities as well as sleek styling and driving enjoyment to the utilitarian task of transporting seven people, Peugeot’s innovative new people carrier, the 5008, was crowned What Car? MPV of the Year.

With its versatile seven-seat layout, the 5008 has taken the genre to a new level, with good looks on the outside and a truly class-leading interior that welcomes passengers with both quality and space. They can also be specified to connect to the latest in-car entertainment systems through the perfectly integrated 7” screens and the connection console offering multiple connections, as well as Bluetooth.

Getting seated is easy, with a flat floor and three generous middle-row seats which slide and recline individually, as well as two comfortable rear seats. And with every individual passenger seat folding effortlessly into the flat floor, the 5008 offers the perfect combination of seating and huge load-carrying capacity

With a range of punchy and refined engines with responsive steering and dynamic road holding, the 5008 makes a long journey much more bearable for the driver and passengers alike, while excellent fuel economy means those journeys won’t break the bank either.

No wonder What Car? described the Peugeot 5008 as ‘compelling’ and a ‘convincing winner’.

Speaking at the What Car? Awards ceremony last night at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Jon Goodman, Managing Director of Peugeot Motor Company, said:

“Everyone at Peugeot is delighted to have won the prestigious What Car? Car of the Year award with the 3008.  Just like What Car?, our customers appreciate our designers’ clever thinking, indeed so much so that we have had to significantly increase production to meet demand since its launch. No other car manufacturer has won this award more than Peugeot and it is a fantastic achievement at the start of the 200th year for the brand to win both the overall prize with 3008 and also the best MPV category with the new 5008. And with the highly anticipated RCZ coming to market later this year, we believe 2010 will prove to be a landmark year for Peugeot.”
