Ride ‘em cowboy, at the Festival of the West

2nd February 2010 Print

For a fun weekend with a difference, re-live the history and the spirit of the cowboy at the ‘Festival of the West’ – taking place at Scottsdale in Arizona between 18 and 21 March – courtesy of US operator, Bon Voyage.

Highlights of this annual event, now in its 12th year, include western music, cowboy entertainment, chuck wagon food – including beans, biscuits and beef cooked on an open fire – military encampments and cowboy folklore.

There’s also a lighthearted ‘Festival of the West Costume Contest’ - with categories including ‘Saloon Woman’, ‘Madame’, ‘Gunfighter’ and ‘Cowboy’ – along with more than 200 exhibitors selling western items such as fine arts, crafts, clothing and memorabilia.  Further information can be found on festivalofthewest.com.

For those who fancy joining in the fun, a seven-night holiday over the festival period costs from £760 per person (twin share) inclusive of return flights from Heathrow and accommodation with full American breakfast at the four-star Radisson Fort McDowell Resort.
