British Gas now Britain's cheapest energy supplier
British Gas has launched a major charm offensive on the household energy market. As well as cutting its gas prices by 7% or £55 it has also launched a new online plan which is the cheapest in the market. The move means that Britain's largest supplier is now:
Cheapest for standard gas
Cheapest for standard electricity
Cheapest online.
Emma Bush, energy expert at uSwitch.com, says: "British Gas is launching a major charm offensive on the household energy market - it is firing on all fronts offering the cheapest gas, electricity and online plans. Online energy plans are consistently the most competitive in the market, but British Gas' new WebSaver 6 launched today comes in at £899 a year. Given that the average household energy bill was £912 in January 2008 this plan is offering consumers the chance to take their energy bills back to pre-2008 prices.
"We would urge all households to seriously consider ditching their standard energy plans and move online. Moving to dual fuel, paying by direct debit and signing up to an online plan will cut your bills by around £300."
