Valunation comments on RICS housing market survey

9th February 2010 Print

Alison Beech, Business Relationship Director, Spicerhaart and Valunation comments on the January RICS housing market survey.

“The latest RICS survey shows a positive outlook for the coming months, despite a slow start to the year. It is encouraging to see the increase in the number surveyors expecting prices and sales to increase in next three months. However, we must remember that the market remains fragile with factors such as the uncertainty of the looming election and rising inflation still needing serious consideration.

“Whilst there was an increase in the number of higher LTV mortgage products available in January, the fact remains that these are still few and far between which will continue to keep first-time buyers out of the market. For any meaningful progression, lenders must lower their restrictions to enable those at the bottom of the ladder to enter the market to kickstart a sustainable recovery.”
