Discover America by rail

10th February 2010 Print

Great Rail Journeys, the UK’s market leader for escorted holidays by rail, has introduced Manchester air departures for its USA Coast to Coast holiday.

“Of course all our long-haul rail tours start with a flight,” says marketing manager Richard Adams, “and until now those flights have departed from Heathrow or Gatwick.  Manchester is the first regional airport for Great Rail Journeys: customers will welcome the news which also gives us much-needed extra capacity.”

Initially, the specialist is offering two Manchester departure dates – 17 April and 20 July – both for its popular 21-day USA Coast to Coast tour, flying in to New York and returning from San Francisco.

The itinerary, using Amtrak rail services, takes in the Big Apple and Washington, Chicago, Denver and the West including Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon before reaching California to discover Los Angeles and San Francisco.  A host of sightseeing excursions along the way include vintage train trips.

Prices start at £2,995 per person (twin share) including return flights from Manchester, 16 nights in hotels on a room-only basis, three overnight rail journeys, all travel within the USA and the services of a Great Rail Journeys tour manager from check-in at Manchester.
