Planning a Valentine's Day proposal?
With Valentine's Day fast approaching, Churchill Insurance is warning would be romantics to be wary of where they keep those high value engagement rings, as they could be very expensive to replace should the worst happen.
Claire Foster, spokesperson for Churchill Home Insurance, comments, "We have had some really unlucky customers who have managed to lose or damage their rings in the most unlikely place, whilst our top ten list shows the most common places for rings to be lost."
Some of the quirkiest ring claims from Churchill include:
A child flushing a ring down the toilet
A dog swallowing a ring
Whilst peeling potatoes, a ring was thrown away with the peel
A ring went through the washing cycle and was damaged
A policyholder's ring was lost when they were at a wedding
According to Churchill, the top ten places people lose their rings are:
1. Out shopping
2. Whilst swimming
3. Somewhere in the home
4. On a beach
5. Down the toilet
6. In the rubbish bin
7. In the pub
8. In the garden
9. On the commute to / from work
10. Whilst removing gloves
Claire concludes, "It is essential that householders with items of jewellery take out personal possessions cover* to be insured for these items both in and away from the home. On a Churchill policy, jewellery worth in excess of £1500 should be individually listed, whereas jewellery with a value of £1500 or less will be included within the general personal possession total. In the event of a claim, some form of substantiation of ownership and value will be required. This may be in the form of original receipts or valuation. Photographs may also assist, though may not demonstrate the actual value of an item."
