Most romantic day of the year is a flop for weddings

12th February 2010 Print

Valentine's Day may be the day on which lovers express their feelings for one another, but it's clearly not the day on which they get married, as new research from wedding insurance specialist Ecclesiastical proves.

According to Ecclesiastical, Valentine's Day is one of the least popular days of the year on which to marry, with only the first two weekends of January proving less popular.

Dave Simms, Ecclesiastical's Personal Lines Manager said: "February 14th may be all about romance but that clearly doesn't translate into actual weddings. It may well be the case that people prefer to propose on Valentine's Day and actually wed during the summer, a much more popular time of year to tie the knot."

Ecclesiastical's study is based on a sample of 3,000 wedding insurance policies sold online during 2009 and 2010.
