Ace high on Volvo addition

Greater versatility and maximum capacity were the requirements when Milton Keynes-based Ace Plant, busy with increasing demand for its specialist hire equipment, brought forward its truck replacement programme and chose to add a Volvo FM-440 8x2 truck to its fleet from the local depot of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London.

Body manufacturer, Cee Jay Systems of Alresford, Hampshire, has added a 27ft flatbed with hydraulic underfloor winch plus a Fassi 31 tonne/metre crane. They also supplied a 6.275m close-coupled trailer to complete the package.

Ace Plant operates nationwide from its Old Stratford, Milton Keynes base and Managing Director, Frank Cundell, says, “The diversity of our specialist range and wide area to be covered requires not only maximum capacity, but greater versatility from our transport than has been available to us in the past. In short, we’ve outgrown the capability of the trucks in our existing fleet.

He added, “The long flatbed and on-board crane comfortably handle any of our fuel bowsers and lighting towers, while the hydraulic beaver-tail, ramps and trailer is ideal for transporting tractors and other machinery.”

“Overall,” concludes Frank, “the Volvo truck is the perfect solution for our growing needs. It helps us logistically, in that we can plan and schedule our operations more efficiently and the cost-effectiveness is already reflected in our bottom line. But the real bonus is that the new truck, being more fuel efficient and adaptable, significantly reduces our carbon footprint.”
