Maybach sponsors Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra debut at BBC Proms 2006
The BBC Proms this year will feature a performance by the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, the first time the orchestra has appeared at the world’s greatest classical music festival. As a highlight of this Proms season’s Mozart 250th anniversary celebrations, the orchestra will take to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall on Monday, 28 August under its principal conductor, the British period-performance specialist Ivor Bolton. The Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, which specialises primarily, but not exclusively, in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, comes to London hot-foot from this year’s Salzburg Festival.Principal sponsor of the orchestra at home in Salzburg is Mercedes-Benz Austria, while the concert in London is being supported by sister company DaimlerChrysler UK under its Maybach brand. Maybach is the ultimate high-end automotive brand whose limousines combine the tradition of large luxury saloons with a host of advanced technical features. With more than two million equipment choices to tempt customers, every Maybach is a unique, valuable, custom-made piece.
Wilfried Steffen, President & CEO of DaimlerChrysler UK Limited, underlined the company’s support for the London concert: “We are proud to support this concert by one of the world’s foremost classical orchestras. Maybach and Mercedes-Benz are both classic names representing top-class products whose appeal, like Mozart’s music, transcends national boundaries and differences. We have been delighted to work with our Austrian colleagues to make possible this concert during the world-renowned BBC Proms.”
After London, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra’s next international appearance will be on 17 and 18 September in Orange County/USA, where it will be the official representative of the Salzburg Festival at the opening of the newly-built ‘Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall’. The orchestra will then begin tours to South Korea, China and Germany.
