Enter your motoring treasure in the H&H auction at Race Retro

Following its successful return to Race Retro last year, H&H has already attracted a host of exciting entries for its 2010 auction, held during the show at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry. However, the catalogue for this prestigious auction will not close until Friday February 26th so there is still time to present your property be it a motor car, motorcycle or piece of automobilia to a truly international audience.
Already on offer is a line up of amazing race and rally vehicles including a 1971 Ford Escort MKI RS1600, one of two RS1600 cars that Historic Motorsports of Daventry assembled to what some have described as the ultimate rally specification yet achieved for a MKI Escort. ‘WRV 207K’ was last piloted in anger by Stig Blomqvist, who will be in action at Race Retro, and co-driver Ana Goni on the 2007 East African Safari Rally. Having taken some 870 hours to prepare, ‘WRV 207K’ finished the gruelling 4,500km event in sixth place overall, while its sister car ‘WPU 242L’ claimed outright victory. This amazing vehicle is estimated to receive offers of between £55,000 and £65,000.
Another Ford Escort on offer is the 1975 MKII RS1800 which is one of the famous Works-supported Championship-winning Haynes of Maidstone liveried cars as driven by John Taylor and later Malcolm Wilson (among others). Still apparently retaining the same bodyshell with which it finished its period career, this ultra-rare Works-supported RS1800 has been extensively restored over recent years and boasts an enviable mechanical specification (original Terry Hoyle block etc) and is expected to attract a price of between £90,000 and £110,000.
Supplied new to privateer driver Douglas Harris and later owned by the Ford Motor Co, the 1969 Ford Escort MKI ‘CMF 730H’ contested both the 1970 and 1974 World Cup Rallies. Finishing 1st-in-class on the former, it retired from the latter somewhere in the Libyan Desert! Since entering the current ownership circa ten years ago, the Escort has been revitalised by Yorkshire Classic Cars and used for historic stage rallying and is attainable for a reasonable £25,000 to £30,000.
For those looking for a true veteran of motoring, how about a 1935 Lagonda LG45 Tourer; Keen to showcase the LG45 – the first model to be overseen by its recently appointed technical director W.O. Bentley – Lagonda had two examples specially built and prepared for the 1936 Monte Carlo Rally. Road registered as ‘DPE 120’ and ‘DPE 121’, the pair were driven by T.G. Moore (of Motor Sport magazine) and A.P. Good (Lagonda’s incoming Chairman) respectively. ‘DPE 121’ encountered black ice and slid off the road some 200 miles after setting off from Tallinn, Estonia but was recovered to the UK on Good’s orders and later restored by the Works in 1947. Still sporting correct-type rally specification wings as well as matching chassis and engine numbers, this historic Lagonda has been in the current ownership since 1975 and again carries an estimated selling price of between £90,000 and £110,000.
Finished in its factory correct livery of Pearl Grey with red leather upholstery and a black hood, the highly desirable 1959 Jaguar XK150 S 3.4 Litre Drophead Coupe is understood to have had just five private keepers from new. One of just thirty-seven right-hand drive examples built, it boasts ‘matching numbers’ and an extensive history file which will help the buying price increase to between £60,000 and £70,000.
Among the cars will be a collection of six left-hand drive Mercedes-Benz ‘SL’ sports cars all distinguished by their outright condition and / or degree of originality to include five W113 ‘Pagodas’ and a W121 190SL.
For those looking for a two-wheeled investment, the motorcycle section contains forty-eight motorcycles from the private and extensive Valencia Collection which spans numerous marques and ages. Machines on offer include a 1925 Norton Model 18, a 1918 Harley Davidson Model J Combination, a 1961 Harley Davidson Duo Glide, a 1955 BSA DB34 Goldstar and a 1968 BMW R69S to name a few.
Arguably the most technologically interesting motorcycle consigned to the Race Retro auction thus far is a replica of Benelli’s iconic 350 Four (Two-Valve) racer. Created in 2007, this glorious machine carries a saleroom estimate of between £50,000 and £55,000.
Amid a packed automobilia section are no fewer than seven trophies awarded to the legendary racing motorcyclist, Mike Hailwood plus the second part of the Elwyn Roberts Collection.
