Star gazing in Utah

3rd March 2010 Print

Star gazing in the crystal clear skies of the Natural Bridges National Park in Utah - accredited as the world’s first designated ‘International Dark Sky Park’ by the International Dark Sky Association – is the offer from US specialist, Bon Voyage.

The park, home to breathtaking sandstone canyons, strange rock formations and dramatic natural bridge, has one of the darkest and clearest night skies in the US making it possible to see in amazing clarity the Milky Way galaxy and millions of stars and planets.

During the summer months, the park has a team of nocturnal rangers – affectionately known as ‘Dark Rangers’ – who are specially trained in astronomy and on hand to advise on star gazing opportunities and educate the public about light pollution and how they can make a difference.

Commented one of the rangers: "Many park visitors are astounded when they first see the Milky Way under a dark sky. It isn't just a faint smudge in the sky, but a bright, intricate river of light which is almost three dimensional.”

For those who fancy checking out the night skies at Natural Bridges, Bon Voyage is highlighting seven-night fly-drive holidays in Utah – a state which is overflowing with incredible national parks – from £745 per person.

This twin share price, applicable throughout June, includes return flights from Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester or Glasgow to Salt Lake City, all inclusive car hire and two nights’ accommodation near the Dark Sky Park at the Desert Rose Inn.
