First Utility makes energy customers an offer they can’t refuse
Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com says "First Utility's new iSave V3 tariff averages out at £889, displacing British Gas after only 2 weeks as the nation's cheapest with a £10 margin.
Best buy in 7 out of 14 regions and with no cancellation fee, the only obstacle to this offer is that its available to home owners only. Midlands customers will benefit from an alternative tariff - Smart Online saver V4 which comes with a free smart meter and is slightly cheaper than the iSave.
If ever more proof was needed that there is a price war between the big 6 then this is surely it. Despite making wide ranging cuts, British Gas only held on to the country's top spot for a matter of weeks before a new contender swooped in with a challenge although the remaining suppliers have not been quick to follow suit when it comes to reducing standard rates. Whilst the prices have plummeted 18% since this time last year for the best buys, standard tariffs have come down less than 3%.
The price is most definitely right for those with an itching to switch and the incentive is certainly increasing as the gap between standard rates and the best online tariffs widens and the benefits increase for those wishing and hoping for cheaper energy bills when prepared to shop for them."
