Almost 300 members of staff from Chester-based Bank of America Europe Card Services will take to the organisation's call centre phones to collect donations for Sport Relief.

The response from staff this year has been so emphatic, the company had no option but to adopt a ‘first come first serve' policy, with a waiting list of additional associates, all keen to help out on the night.

Bank of America, one of the region's largest employers with 4,000 staff based at its Chester headquarters, will be using its call centre to take donations from the public for the sporting charity spectacular on Friday 19th March.

The call centre teams at Bank of America ECS will operate from 6.30pm to 2am and will join around 12,000 other people giving their time to operate phone lines around the UK.

The organisation's senior leadership team this week donned their own sportswear to reinforce the company's backing for the charity campaign.

John Greaves, Communications Executive for Bank of America ECS, which also operates the MBNA brand, said: "We need around 300 staff to help us on the night but we've been overwhelmed by the response we've had so far. The fact we have had to create a separate waiting list shows just how strongly our staff want to get involved and support this campaign.

"For Comic Relief last year we did something similar and the donations taken by our staff at the call centre came in at more than £180,000. That is a huge achievement and we are delighted to be involved again this time around."

Through a range of fundraising activities for Comic Relief last year, Bank of America ECS staff raised more than £4,000.

This year, staff are planning to double their efforts with office collections, a sponsored one-mile fun run in the grounds of the offices at Chester Business Park and a range of sporting events and activities that staff can take part in throughout the day - for a fee!

All proceeds will go to supporting Sport Relief, which is aiming to help the country to get active, raise cash and change lives. It is also aiming to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world's poorest countries.

Bank of America is known for its support of charities with a range of charity affinity card products.

Bank of America's Charitable Foundation arm also donated one million dollars earlier this year to assist the relief efforts in Haiti and is supporting staff making charitable contributions to assist the disaster relief efforts in the country, by matching their contributions.

As a global organisation Bank of America's Charitable Foundation arm, one of the world's largest, makes grants of more than US$200million every year.
