Motorsport charity golf tournament hits the spot
‘The MIA Masters of Golf’ officially teed off National Motorsport Week on Thursday 10 August. A Pro-Am event, it provided an opportunity for members of the motorsport industry to play golf with stars of the sport they help to underpin.Drivers from the GP Masters race series joined forces with MIA members at Whittlebury Park near Silverstone. The drivers’ line up comprised: Nigel Mansell, Pierluigi Martini, Eric van de Poele, Jan Lammers, Riccardo Patrese and motorsport’s very own ‘Del Boy’, Derek Warwick.
The Petrolheads team, led by Gary Sargeant - Senior Partner of Gary Sargeant & Company - won the event just ahead of THB Clowes. LUK teamed-up with ‘Our Nige’ and were third on the podium.
Said Gary Sargeant, "I want to record my thanks to all involved for a truly wonderful, superbly organised, day. My clients and guests were ecstatic and the drivers were all approachable and courteous. Winning the event was the icing on the cake."
Following the golf, the players transferred to Silverstone circuit, where they all enjoyed lunch before the amateur players were given the opportunity to watch the drivers test their cars from the pits – a privilege normally only available to race team members.
The whole event created a lot of interest and will hopefully become a regular feature of the British round of the GP Masters series, as well as an integral part of National Motorsport Week. Most importantly, the day raised valuable funds for the Motorsport Foundation.
