EDF Energy second gas price cut
EDF Energy has announced a further cut in its residential gas prices of 4 per cent. The price reduction will be effective from 26 March 2010. We are the only major supplier to implement two gas price reductions in the last six months.
Today’s announcement follows our tariff reductions in October 2009 which meant EDF Energy’s standard Dual Fuel and gas prices were the lowest among the major suppliers during the recent exceptionally cold winter, regardless of payment method.
Our latest cut will reinforce the company’s position as having some of the lowest prices in the industry. A typical gas only customer will have seen a reduction of at least 6.9% in their bills since October 2009, with those paying by monthly direct debit seeing a 10.6% decrease. This equates to a saving of £82 on their annual gas bills, making a typical average direct debit gas customer £26 a year better off with EDF Energy than with British Gas.
EDF Energy has ensured that its ‘most in need’ customers on Energy Assist will benefit from this gas price decrease.
The announcement shows EDF Energy’s determination to continue to provide competitive prices, deliver excellent service and first-class choice for our customers. This is why EDF Energy has the most satisfied gas customers according to an independent survey by JD Power.
Martin Lawrence, Managing Director, Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply at EDF Energy, said: “In these difficult times we are pleased to be able to offer our customers further price reductions. We are committed to delivering competitive prices and our customers have already benefited from the lowest dual fuel and gas only prices among the major suppliers throughout the coldest periods in December and January when they needed it most.
As well as offering competitive prices, EDF Energy continues to help its customers save money by providing them practical and effective ways to use their energy more efficiently and cut their energy use.”.
EDF Energy has already removed its price differentials between standard credit and prepayment for both gas and electricity customers, for which the company was commended by the National Housing Federation in 2009. EDF Energy was the first supplier to align its electricity prepayment prices to its standard credit prices back in 2005.
For customers paying by direct debit, this decrease in prices will be considered in the next review after the effective date.
