Furniture donation sits comfortably with Ryedale YMCA
Setting up home can be expensive, but a furniture donation from Redrow is helping young people move on from temporary accommodation with Ryedale YMCA.
Furniture from the award winning homebuilder’s former show home at Priorpot Mews in Norton has been gifted to the local YMCA.
Jason Butterfield, from the YMCA, said: “We’ve got 14 units where we provide supported accommodation to young people aged 16 to 25. Clients can stay for just a short period or for up to two years. We work with other agencies to help them move on and into homes of their own but recognise that clients can find it difficult to raise enough cash for all of the furniture they need. The donation from Redrow means we can give them a good start by allowing them to take the items they need most.
“We’ve already passed on double beds to two clients moving into rented accommodation and a wardrobe to someone else. Thanks to Redrow a number of young people will have a better start in homes of their own.”
Founded over 160 years ago, the YMCA is the largest voluntary sector provider of safe, supported accommodation in England for single men and women between the ages of 16 and 25. On average, it works with over one million people each year offering guidance on seven separate areas including; housing and homelessness, health and fitness, crime and safety, careers and money, education and skills, personal development and parenting and family.
Patsy Aicken, Redrow sales manager, says: “Community work is always very important to Redrow, especially in the areas in which we are building. We recently opened a new show home at Priorpot Mews and wanted to find a good home for the furniture from the old one, which - because it’s only been used for ‘show’ - is virtually new.
“The YMCA is less than two miles away from Priorpot Mews and as we’re almost neighbours we were delighted when they came forward. We hope it will make a difference to those people who are moving on from the supported accommodation to homes of their own.”
