Virgin Atlantic to create 200 jobs in Swansea

Virgin Atlantic is pleased to announce that it will be opening a new customer service operation in Swansea in September 2010. The move will create more than 200 jobs in the area over the next two years.

The new customer service centre will run in conjunction with Virgin Atlantic’s existing operation in Crawley West Sussex. Julie Southern, Chief Commercial and Financial Officer, Virgin Atlantic commented;

"Virgin Atlantic is pleased to be opening a new customer service centre based in Swansea, particularly at a time when few companies are announcing an expansion in job opportunities in the UK.

"We know that Swansea has many experienced customer service staff and we look forward to being able to use their valuable experience to support Virgin Atlantic’s customers. We are lucky to have dedicated and passionate staff and are sure those in Swansea will be no exception.

"We are pleased to be retaining our experienced team in Crawley and we are sure that this additional customer service centre in Swansea will serve to enhance the already industry-leading experience that our customers receive."

The investment has been supported by the Welsh Assembly Government through the Single Investment Fund and has been warmly welcomed by Ieuan Wyn Jones, Minister for the Economy and Transport who commented:

"Virgin Atlantic is one of the UK’s leading airlines serving the world’s major cities and it’s excellent news to attract a business of this calibre to Wales.

"The Assembly Government has worked closely with the company during the past six months highlighting the advantages of investing in Wales and I am delighted we have been able to support their decision to open a new centre in Swansea creating a substantial number of new jobs. It will provide an important boost to the local economy creating a range of jobs and career opportunities which is of particular importance during the current economic climate."
