DVLA Personalised Registrations hit the mark this morning when the registration 9 O sold for a staggering £94,182.

Incredibly, this was almost instantly followed up with two further big sellers with OFF 1 and 2 OOO going under the hammer for £37,973 and £31,910 respectively.

Collectively, the three registrations made £164,065 for the Treasury and all within the first 20 minutes of the final day of the three-day Spring auction being staged at Old Trafford, home of Manchester United. All three successful bidders wished to remain anonymous.

Speaking from the auction hall Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: “While we were hoping for fine things from 9 O, we were all left stunned when the hammer fell on £74,500, which, after VAT and buyer’s premiums, takes the total to £94,182.”

He added: “We literally didn’t have time to celebrate its success when the bids came flooding in for OFF 1 and then 2 OOO. Quite phenomenal.”

With a reserve price of £10,000 – the highest of all the 1,500 registrations being sold over the three days - expectations surrounding the sale of 9 O  were high, especially in the wake of last year with the agency auctioning its first six O plates – 1 O – 6 O – for a collective £666,000.
