Baroque style cocktail bar to open in Shoreditch
Next month will see the launch of Avalon, East London’s newest cocktail bar, lounge and club. Set within the heart of Shoreditch, yet with a truly international feel, Avalon will attract a diverse and discerning crowd from all over London.
On entering through the lobby area, guests arrive at The Cocktail Bar, which mixes traditional Oriental themes with edgy design elements. A large and intricate Chinese hand-carved screen stands in the entrance hall with smaller screens adorning the walls that can be back-lit by different colour LED lighting to suit the mood. The black marble bar itself also has LED strips, which tone in with the panels around the room.
An impressive cocktail list has been created by Head Barman, Frankie Campopiano, with influences from the venue’s decadent Asian design. Signature drinks include delights such as Cherry Blossom, a refreshing combination of fresh cherries and oranges with cherry vodka, rum and Grand Marnier garnished with a sugar coated cherry, and Karma Sip-tra, with muddled blackberries and basil leaves, fresh lime juice, sloe gin and Mandarine Napoleon liqueur, served in a martini glass with a floating basil leaf. Frankie has worked in the industry for over 5 years at some of London’s hottest venues.
The Lounge at Avalon can be found at the rear of the venue and is an opulent and eclectic space with both Oriental and luxurious Baroque influences and a silver and black theme throughout.
Guests can lounge on the flamboyant chaise-longue, hide-away in one of the discreet alcoves, perch regally on one of the Louis XVI chairs, or even sit at the central round table, which is fitted with high-backed gold-studded chairs. Plush silver velvet banquette seating at the back of the Lounge provides a private table space, secluded by luxurious crushed velvet curtains and large gilt-framed mirrors are hung throughout.
The Club at Avalon will have a dark and hedonistic feel to it, providing a space for party-goers to dance long into the night. With a serious sound-system and a sophisticated lighting offering, the Club will play host to some of the best DJs and performers in the Capital. Although adjacent to the Bar, this area can be entirely separated if needed.
At the back of the venue, The Garden at Avalon provides a large outdoor terrace space, rarely seen in London and providing a relaxing oasis from the bustle of Shoreditch. Walled by red-brick railway arches, the space has a very urban and industrial feel. Cleverly positioned lighting will create an ambient atmosphere and gas heaters will cater for our less balmy summer evenings. Needless to say this area will be a huge hit for smokers.
The Garden is a truly versatile space, which will constantly evolve from season to season. From an outdoor cinema, to a silent disco, to a summer garden-party, guests will be amazed and excited at The Garden’s ever-changing offering.
Maca Yanez is this year’s artist in residence at Avalon, providing the artwork for the bar’s exterior, bathrooms, menus and website. Maca is a Chilean artist who studied at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design. She creates a collage effect by layering retro black and white photographs with colourful flower and eccentric animal designs.
Later this year at Avalon, a lower-level luxury spa and treatment room complex will be launched as a pampering and event space. The spa will contain large mosaic-tiled Jacuzzi bathing pools, private ‘Mini Pool Party Rooms’ containing indulgent hot-tubs for the ultimate treat, as well as a luxurious relaxation area.
