Dating expert rescues stranded travellers
Despite almost a week of airport closures, British holiday-makers are still returning to the UK thanks to an innovative dating expert.
Lexi Proud, founder of ArrangeMeADate.com is harnessing her matchmaking skills to help Brits abroad find places to stay and routes back into the country.
Lexi’s Facebook page, ‘I need to get home – Volcanic Ash’, has so far helped a couple stranded in Sicily and a group of four unable to fly back from a skiing holiday in Courchevel.
“The page is an online meeting place for people to ask for – or offer – help to anyone affected by the Volcanic ash cloud,” says Lexi. “Most importantly it’s free to use.”
“When I found out friends were stranded across the world my immediate reaction was to get involved and help them get back.
“Duncan Bannatyne might have £3000 to arrange a chauffeur-driven car to get him back from Nice, but not everybody is as rich as he is. Besides, bosses will only be lenient for so long.”
Jane Roberts and David Bromley were due to fly back from Sicily with British Airways on Sunday, but their flight was cancelled and no refund was offered.
They are now due to arrive back in the UK tomorrow after Lexi from ArrangeMeADate.com devised a route for them comprising a ferry to the mainland, trains to Bologna and then Basel and finally a lady willing to drive them back to London.
Stephen Higgon, along with three friends grounded in Courchevel, is also due to return to English soil today after Lexi scoured the internet for spare seats on coaches.
The momentum of the Facebook page is already growing rapidly with celebrities such as Will Carling Tweeting links on Twitter.
ArrangeMeADate.com, co-founded by Lexi Proud and Keely Barrett, is a revolutionary online dating service that takes the stress out of finding the perfect match.
